Can't just ace the dog in broad daylight so I'm stuck waiting for it to attack....in reality I shouldn't have left 12g in there because it's harder to make sure you have a clear shot if it's fighting with the dog. @ConfederateHobo We've fired off a hell of a lot of 12 G without much statement from anyone, the only ones I worry about are the new folks a few houses down. They were asking how to get a tesla charger.....and I don't think they could bring it down the dirt road to begin with. I forget the specifics but she was pissed at an old guy down the lane putting down a horse in his field (from what they tell me.) I hate them so much, they're so urban it's infuriating. "Why did you shoot it, you should have called a vet, they can put it down painlessly!!!" Or how about we shoot it in the brainstem and save $1500? So far I've used a .22 and it's fairly quiet, but I can definitely hear the cracks from larger calibers coming from a mile or two away. I just wouldn't want them to be looking for their dog and remember hearing 5 9mm +P reports reverberating off their fence

In this scenario you *might* carry around a shotgun while you're doing chores, but you'll end up with your hands full more than once, which is why I leaned towards pistols. You aren't sure if/when the showdown begins. If it were still around after nightfall and it's inside the wire it's fair game, then you could have at it and bury it by morning

@RoyalJohnny242 @ConfederateHobo @WashedOutGundamPilot problem with .22 LR is the stopping power more than the ability to kill, probably the most famous use for .22 is for silenced work like the American high standard pistols used in WW2 or the Israelis using the Beretta 71 with a suppressor but both of those weren't really engaging in combat against a foe shooting back but just killing a surprised or defenseless one often with a mag dump. In the latter case they didn't even need to kill them right away, just have them die some time after.

@WashedOutGundamPilot Giving this some further thought, about what *i* think i'd be able to get away with, i'd definitely load up some bunnyfart .44 specials with heavy SWC's.it wouldn't be *the* most quiet thing possible, but at like 15k PSI, it's about as quiet as you can get with a centerfire cartridge without a suppressor, with the SWCs being your best way to maintain some level of respectable penetration.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @teknomunk You could do worse. Spears are effective. Light weight, one handed or under arm carry, silent. Not ideal for shitbulls but for snakes, possums, rats it works well. Of course a shovel works as well and you can bury the possums and collect the chicken shit with it afterwards.
