The apocalyptic diseases brought by contact wiped out 95% of the population that was left, and that's _after_ a series of natural disasters beset groups like the Mayans and shattered their civilisations. I mean, personally, I'm not a fan of slavery, but it is true, that a society must consist of rulers and followers. And when you have a highly creative bloodline coming into contact with good-worker-but-not-very-creative bloodlines, what would happen is that the former would conquer the latter. Perhaps in some cases, the latter would even willingly give rulership to the former on account of their beauty/strength/competence/technology (I imagine many of those early europeans would've been very scared and simultaneously very impressed by giant warriors taming wild animals and riding them).
