When in person classes first started again, even here in Texas the district would quarantine an entire class for 14 fucking days if a single kid had covid. After almost two years of that crap, they now don't even quarantine siblings of confirmed cases, and the child with covid can come back as soon as they don't have a fever. Almost like the policies we were being told would "keep people safe" were bullshit from the beginning 🤔

I've heard there were unverifiable reports that everyone from gunshot victims, car crashes and suicides were chalked up as covid. Also in Canada they made no distinction between someone dying WITH covid and dying OF covid. So if you went to a hospital for something unrelated say a stroke, contracted covid then died from complications from your stroke, you still would have been marked down as dying of covid. Absolute clown shit all around.

Like most topics of a contentious nature, there are always going to be two sides to the story with different subsets of people vehemently defending each, and then somewhere in the middle is the truth. But also like most contentious topics, the issue of covid has been clouded by so much emotion that everyone's perception is inextricably colored by their own experiences during the pandemic.Personally, I am not trying to say that covid was/is not dangerous, especially to people with risk factors. I also believe that it's sometimes beneficial as a society for us to protect vulnerable individuals by perhaps taking actions to mitigate risks on their behalf. I wash my hands after using the bathroom. I cover my mouth when I sneeze. I don't do those things for ME, but for other people. So I don't agree with the argument that the onus of keeping safe from covid solely rests on the shoulders of those most at risk.That said, my belief is that when the pandemic struck, most health agencies around the world had absolutely no clue what to do--so they threw EVERYTHING at the wall at once in order to tackle it, including sometimes straight up lying to the public to create a sense of panic and urgency to follow their recommendations. Did some of those recommendations help? Absolutely. But many of them did a lot of harm, too-- and I have yet to see any official from those agencies come out and take responsibility or apologize for those actions. And THAT is why I find it hard to take anything the CDC or WHO say seriously at this point. They destroyed their reputations with a lot of people.
