Whenever there's a food shortage, the only thing left at the supermarket is the fake meat. Clearly nobody wants it, it's fucking poison. Yet, every restaurant and fast food franchise from Taco Bell to Denny's insists on having it on the menu. Nobody's buying this. According to basic economic principles this shouldn't even exist. What kind of return are they getting on it? It must be a financial loss for the company. Yet here it is, advertised and pushed everywhere.

I'm open to trying new things, I tried a beyond meat burger once.It's chickpeas. Just chickpeas. Tastes like chickpeas, feels like chickpeas, it was supremely disappointing.If I want to buy chickpeas, I will. chickpeas are great! You can get them dried and store them for a long time in case you need them, and some people like them but I find them a bit meh, but if I want them I'll head to the veggie aisle and pay 3 bucks for all the chickpeas I'll ever want rather than head to the meat aisle and pay 15 bucks for some chickpeas marked as fake beef.

With each new product there's a marketing blitz that generates some new demand for dairy alternatives, but over time most consumers reject it and go back to dairy. But they accomplish their goal of shaving off some small percentage of demand for real dairy products. It's death by 1000 cuts. Give it a few years and they'll be back with a new fake meat product with billion dollar propaganda push behind it and we'll see the exact same thing happen. But it'll pressure the industry they're attacking and drive good white men out of it or to suicide with the prospect of losing their multigenerational family farm.
