@milk A HUGE amount of SNES games have large amounts of slowdown that affect not only the visuals but the sound too, because there really was not a lot of fast throughput or high power computing going on. The Super Nintendo can't even run fully featured port of the original Doom.

The point of the post is that the super nintendo had no games it struggled with, and that the hardware could do lots of cool stuff for being so weak.While it could do lots of cool stuff, it had a HUGE amount of limitations, similar to other consoles of its specs at the time. The problem isn't 4 gigabytes of RAM, it's the fact that chromebooks are complete pieces of shit that are optimized so badly I would be surprised if THEY could run doom.

It's an arms race between lazy coders armed with bloat and people with more RAM. other than HD video and gaming, there's not much that SHOULD necessitate an upgrade from 15 year old midrange hardware for the average user, besides an SSD.

Like people who've been tasked with maintaining and improving some old stone building, but who lack the skill and knowledge of the original craftsmen. I think this would be happening anyway, but the pervasive idea that "developer speed is the top priority" makes things a lot worse.OS rot is real for sure, any OS is full of bugs and some of those bugs will cause persistent problems because they mess up data the OS relies on. Over time that stuff just adds up.
