Seems the #retro and #Amiga #Atari and #C64 fanbase has become a bit limited on Fedi.... that's pretty sad, old computer stuff was and is still the best โค๏ธ

@Firelion Workbench seems like the most soulful UI I have ever seen. Maybe that's because it's simple and intuitive, unlike most modern OSes and desktop environments.

@Firelion someone needs to make a retrocomputer friendly FE for Pleroma and/or Mastodon, or an outright client for Amiga OS

@Firelion yeah. Seeing from the pictures you posted, my window manager configuration isn't too different from Workbench, although these days I prefer using a tiling window manager instead of a stacking one.

@getimiskon @Firelion The first GUI that I ever used was actually Workbench on the 3000. My father ran a construction shop. He hated computers, but his nephew got suckered into buying a 3000 from a local Commodore dealer while my dad was on vacation. So it mostly sat in my father's showroom and he let me play with it. ๐Ÿ˜›

@getimiskon @Firelion considering the state of browsers for the old micros (i.e. JS and/or CSS support not present or ES3 / level 1 at best) I'm not sure if even Bloat would be lightweight enough

@dubh @Firelion there /is/ a Gemini client for Amiga OS, so a Gemini-based fe would be good. Without any decent forms support though, it'd be essentially read-only

@coldacid @Firelion yeah, that's what I have in mind. I have just tested a bloat instance with Dillo, to see if that works and it doesn't, so I'm not sure if that would work on these old machines.A native client for retro computers would be a much better solution.

@codewiz yes it is. It replaces the original explorer.exe, and uses a similar unified view. However in recent years MS has adopted or copied a lot of features, so less relevant. But for me, to perform remote connections easily is already a big win (ssh, ftp)

@codewiz I remember. Handy to place a clock on your desktop background ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜…It is improving, but explorer felt slow when handling files. Preferred to use TeraCopy to copy files, or Irfan, ot others to preview images. Dopus solved that...Still running it these days because of my preferences/settings
