@TylerAbeoJordan Capitalism is a dead brand clung to by boomer cultists who dont understand that the icon of Capitalism is not free markets, but the federal reserve. Capitalism IS cronyism. It destroys free markets, and always results in monopoly. Capitalists are just as stupid and imbalanced as Marxists. They are two sides of the same dumbass coin. Two extremes, arguing over theories that never work. One brings a dystopia controlled by facebook and walmart, the other brings the Soviet Union 2.0.Both of you can screw off.No, really. Go ahead and vigorously screw right off.

Eh kinda, capitalism does not hold a monopoly on free markets. Mind you Marx and other economists coined the term similtaneously so there are two working conditions but both require an investor class that make profits off of either investment pay and/or excess labor of the workers.

@anubis2814 If free markets and no regulation -- and the needed prereq of sound money and everyone being armed; then easy to see that full employment could be achieved in time and through that wages would grow substantially over what they are these days ... hence allowing for anyone who so desired to SAVE money and become "investor class" if they are not too stupid anyway.I've heard that Marx coined the term ... but that doesn't really matter. It is what it is.

@TylerAbeoJordan Whoever wrote this wrote "capitalism" but meant "libertarianism", which is just one subset of capitalist models. Capitalism comes in a wide range of models, from ancap to nazism. "No true Scotsman" fallacies like this just muddle the picture.

@thriveth Definitions are always a problem as we each have different views of things. For me what you call nazism I'd call fascism or corporatism and (again, for me) that's not at all the same thing as free market capitalism as the State is involved on many levels.

@TylerAbeoJordan Words mean things regardless of our viewpoint. The term "capitalism" means an economic system dominated by enterprise owned by private owners operated for the private profit of the owners. It has centuries behind it with that meaning and is broadly accepted as such. Historically, many capital owners have been fine with various levels of state interference and publicly run institutions. Fascism is one subgroup of capitalism, libertarianism - which is what you describe - is another.Capitalism in the sense in this meme is a recent redefinition which is basically just an attempt to rebrand it by disassociating capitalism from its crimes against humanity.

@thriveth There is no "private ownership" under the State - everything is merely a lease. Fail to pay the lease and it is taken away by force. Therefore, by your own stated definition, capitalism requires free markets and hence can't be the same as fascism.

@thriveth Also, words can't commit "crimes against humanity" ... people do that. Especially when they pack up together - form gangs and then further centralize into States ... if capitalism is about investing and building, then it is simply a tool, like a gun ... can be used to build housing and hospitals or bombs ... it's the attitude of those wielding the gun that matters.
