Ultimately I think the fediverse is a step in the right direction, but not a final solution. The fediverse itself is robust because there's no centralised service to take down, but each instance is dependent on centralised services and eventually they'll realise they can attack us by cutting us off from hosting.What we need in the long term is decentralised hosting. Fedi instances (and websites in general) should be more like torrents, where seeders are rewarded for storing/distributing content and there's no centralised host to DMCA or cancel.

If I understood the last point, it was talking about letting fedi talk to Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, with the hopes that this would encourage them to adhere to their moderation standards. When no one side has complete power, or if you are the one in a position of total dominance, it makes some sense to advocate against the use of or obtaining more power for fear of how it will be used or upsetting the balance.But when you are not in a position of power, and when power is being used against you, what should you do? Last spring my university announce that they were restructuring how dorms would be segregated. Previously it was by sex and major. Now they want to do race and sexuality. Explicitly they said that in 10 years that want to have a "queer Hispanic section" for dorms.A surprising amount of students protested this decision, but we were told "that none of us have the proper background to understand why this is good", so they are going to do it regardless. Even though hundreds were upset, a significant percentage at our small university, we effectively have no power, and they can do whatever they want regardless of how we feel about it.At this point, I don't see how it's bad to work to obtain as much power as me and "my side" can, and then use it to destroy our enemies. Can it be turned against me? Yes, and it already has been.

Presuming you are in the States if it is a public university there are recourses, recent cases have been swinging in the favor of personal liberties and the intrusions of the State as an apparatus against the privacies of their students. E.G: The recent victory against room scanning for test proctoring in public universities. Private universities? Honestly, you can affect them via withdrawing from the dorm system. Students can pool funds to rent locations together in groups. You can always punish people with money (regrettably). I entirely understand the desire to grab power, but personally I feel that it is of a far greater benefit to society as a whole to restrict the power the government has over your life and individual liberty. The Constitution of the United States of America is an amazing document in that it gives a list of what the government cannot do to infringe upon you. We need more of that. Much respect though for your opinion.

Well in "Fourth Amendment Reasonableness" he states that he hopes the supreme court rolls back the third party doctrine, which allows government agencies to access third-party data (e.g., phone records) without a warrant, and allow third party records to be covered under the fourth amendment. But that this would necessitate departing from a strict requirement for search warrants (and individualized probable cause) under the Fourth Amendment, and instead adopting a more grey interpretation of whether or not a search warrant is "reasonable" for electronic surveillance.

The people behind the State have the most incentive to keep the status quo. It brings to mind though the many times that regimes have found their useful fools who believe, erroneously in my opinion, that they are also part of this vaunted few and as such will never be betrayed. History is awash with the blood of those loyal lapdogs whom no longer needed were cast into the grave. They believe with every fiber of their being that they are "right" and "righteous", that the State is going to protect them when inevitably it will come for them as well. I don't really know what the solution is. The very purpose of government seems to be to perpetuate more government, the absence of any form of value system for governance leads to chaos which while amusing isn't tenable long term.

I think there is intrinsic differences between what the real preferences are of the lackey versus what the State aims to do (preserve itself) means that seeming alignments are temporary and always broken.
