@KayFaraday @hungerarcana any. Original fiction is not permitted on AO3. That's why people tagged their Seven Seals stories as real person fiction even if they included completely original characters only (like some stuff Iris wrote).

@comrade_lecter @KayFaraday @hungerarcana Are you sure? I could find 170 K stories tagged as Original Work as their fandom. I could only go back to May 2020, Ao3 wont show more than 5K pages. But still, I think they would not be around for more than 2 years if they were not permitted.

@comrade_lecter @KayFaraday @hungerarcana Oh, I actually found and read the FAQ, and yeah technically they only allow original fiction produced "in a fandom context" and that's left for the author to decide. They won't remove original fiction unless it breaks other policies. They are super strict with being non-commercial tho, and will ban you if you are a published author posting original stories set in your published book, seeing that as advertisement.

@zombiefemboy @tubularnebula for me trolling is inseparable from being not genuine. A sincere feeling, even if expressed in an annoying manner, is not trolling. I go through periods of being strongly annoyed by the AO3's existence, because I associate it with a figure of a smug self confident proshipper who believes to be the main advocate for fiction and fantasy and the main victim of fantasy demonization, all while supporting harming maps. If I want to sting these people a little, it's not trolling, because I actually feel this way. I won't do it, of course, it won't make my own life any better, and harm to AO3 would upset some maps too. But the feeling is there.

@tubularnebula I have been to AO3. It's a hobby site. I don't view hobby content as priority content. It doesn't mean I think it shouldn't exist, or that people are somehow worse for liking it, but it's not the same as real marginalized lives.I have also accumulated a lot of frustration with AO3 and immediate distrust towards AO3 goers who I don't already know are maps/allies, for the reasons I stated above. I'm not trying to bring real harm to AO3, but sometimes I talk about how I wish I could, and it should be taken as a fantasy, not an intention.

@comrade_lecter AO3's stated purpose is to preserve fanworks. It wasn't intended to be a general fiction archive. Does it kind of suck, personally? Yeah. Do I fault them for that? No, not really, if originalfictioners want our own site like AO3 AO3's entire userbase should vote for a policy change to reflect a shift in userbase wants, or we should make our own.

This is an old post, I have since then muted "AO3" on all social media where you can filter words and did not talk about it. I hate that site, with a passion, I want to see it erased from existence forever. I am aware this is not a rational feeling and I am aware I should not act on it.
