@yac weird. I have self hosted for a couple years, and it works fine.

@atyh @yac I hate to say the guy is holding it wrong, but he is. He's on a DO box in a range on UCEPROTECT lists.I get this can be frustrating but basically don't host mail on cheap/free VPS hosting. His provider (DO) provides free credit for VPSes in the same ranges. If he used a provider that doesn't give out free SMTP access to people signing up for free credit he's unlikely to have this problem.

@yac @atyh its a shame he doesnt quite get it. He absolutely *should* be on a blacklist because he's in a high spam risk IP range.

@stevelord @atyh Still, even if you carefully select your provider, it only takes one bad IP to blacklist you. From there, I understand there is little to none recourse. That does not seem fair nor right, does it?

@yac @atyh The idea that there's no recourse is a meme. There are always processes and options unless you literally enabled spam through your domain/IP. It's just easier to believe in a conspiracy than patiently solve hard problems. It's perfectly fair to blacklist a heavily abused IP block. That's how our friend got on UCEPROTECT's L2 and L3 list. There are policies and processes in place for listing, removals, whitelisting etc. here: http://www.uceprotect.net/en/index.php

@yac @stevelord It should be mentioned that I and @stevelord are not an avid supported or tech monopolies, defending their honor. Instead, I think what is being suggested is that running your own small email server is viable. And by viable I don’t mean “will reach big email x” as the point is to NOT use them. And encourage anyone who is able, to self host.In fact, the original post is exactly the kind of thing I would use to discourage people from doing so.And honestly I find it strange that someone who has supposedly hosted for almost two decades would not know some of the basic principles. I’m actually a little suspicious of the whole thing. 🧐
