@Kinochet I'm only 75% sure I wasn't calling people nigger on the internet. I don't think 6 year old me ever heard of that word. However I was the first kid on my block to get Xbox live with the original house sized Xbox. I had like 6 other guys in my room when we first hooked it up to play fucking tetris worlds and we realized it had live voice chat. All we did was call people niggers on Xbox live all day and talk shit. It was almost instinct.

@Revenas @HappyAlgebra I was on dial up when it first got popular in like 93 or 94. We had AOL for a few years. But after I got banned so many times we got Earthlink instead and I just used AIM messenger which was mostly unmoderated.A lot of people were into Yahoo chat but I never got into that. AIM was where it was at.

@Kinochet @Revenas Yeah, even after AOL, most of my high school friend group talked on AIM. I should see if I can fire up the old AIM account and see if I have some internet buddies from it that remember me. There was this one girl I used to play a free game called Gunbound with, she was my duo partner and she was really good, probably was a man but still.

@cross @HappyAlgebra @Revenas I was grounded a few times and had periods where I wasn't allowed back on because my mom stupidly used AOL for work email and it got her account restricted each time I got banned. Looking back now I feel bad about that. But those women needed to be put in their place. Eventually my mom switched to Yahoo mail and got Earthlink instead of AOL.

@Revenas @Kinochet I admit, I only became a PC gamer in 2005. I missed out on a lot of the classic PC stuff. I thank Christ to this day I never got into WoW though. That being said I like Diablo 3 because I actually made money off the game during the brief time the real money auction house was in play.

So it was 112 kbps...if I remember right, I am not sure. It continuously got faster all the way up to like 500 eventually up to 1k by the time cable came around.Dial up initially was only 56 kbps.

So you would just connect then run all your apps separately from AOL. It was like graduating from kindergarten. However I know I used to download vid files from FTP servers on AOL, used to have to combine them all, and would take hours to download. Jesus the good old days, and god forbid someone in the house picked up the phone!!!!
