@josh I would immediately try and fool the temperature sensors. If the system thinks the rooms is warmer or colder than it actually is, it will give you the temperature you want even if you cannot manipulate the set point value any more.If that doesn't work I would [fedpost redacted]

@TarnishedYarmulke @Marshall1Banana @josh Even the dumb appliances come pre-set to annoy you. I have a window AC that defaults to "energy saver" made when you turn it on. Instead of cool air, it pumps the room full of warm, stale farts. I don't know why you'd want or need a device to do this, or to use energy to power it, but I bought it anyway. This is great if you want to, say, cool off a sweltering bedroom before you go to bed, turn it on, forget to toggle that shit off and go do something else only to return to a room that is still sweltering.At LEAST that has a toggle.

@josh Per what I read about one utility that deployed these, customers got $100 for installing them and $25/year … which sounds a bit cheap, but it’s not exactly fine print that “you enrolled in a Community Energy Savings program.” Programs that have been a thing since the 1980s at minimum for households, and longer for companies.Grid demand is not something we or under constant Green attack utilities can shrug off. There’s only so much power that can be delivered at any one time, then they shed loads like with this program, then at worst case then have to do rolling blackouts.Looks like the formerly developed world going to see a lot of that this winter; as I commented within the last day, Western Europe’s money printing machines can’t print natural gas.
