Is it a hot take that a filesystem shouldn't break itself for no reason after not even one week?

Like why the fuck do so many guides recommend btrfs, this is outrageous

@volpeon btrfs is what happens when you like ZFS but are mad about random legal technicalities so you badly try to recreate it

@volpeon because it is quite nice. Until it breaks. And even then, it has a restore command to copy all files of a broken file system.

@9S@raru.re The restore command is certainly nice, but if the filesystem is so easy to break I'll rather switch back to ext4 where I never had to do anything like that ever, much less after not even a week :drgn_weary:

@volpeon @9S How the fuck do you break your fs? oOAll my computers (servers included) run on btrfs from +3 years (some +5 years) and I never experienced any issue with it 😅

@Eldeberen@social.middleearth.fr @9S@raru.re I have no idea, I just literally used the system normally. I did not tinkering at all

@Eldeberen@social.middleearth.fr @9S@raru.re I also have btrfs on a laptop where it has been working fine, that's why I felt safe using it on my PC as well

@volpeon @Eldeberen That’s weird. Well, if btrfs doesn’t work with your hardware, I would also suggest not using it. Maybe you should open a big report?

@volpeon I know this won't help you specifically, but from my subjective point of view it has been perfectly stable. For this reason, if someone asked *me*, I would recommend it to them. So I assume this has been the experience of these other users you mentioned

@me@mastodon.cysioland.pl I guess I'm special (even though all I was doing was using the system like a normal person) :drgn_weary:

@volpeon To me that's a 10+ years old take.t. ZFS user since 2007
