So, I was running Jellyfin, I tried Navidrome, but honestly, I probably don't need all of that at all, do you? https://joelchrono12.xyz/blog/local-music-is-what-i-need/ #music #selfhost #linux #android #blogpost

@joel re: Eliza, maybe try Quod Libet. Yes, it’s GTK instead of Qt, but it actually plays music like I want: one album at a time, at random if I haven’t chosen anything to play next.

@joel exactly. Keep it simple. Even low end phones have enough flash storage for a large music collection.I tend to like players that give me the option to navigate my folder structure directly since it already is organized as it should be. Vanilla music (fdroid) is my current favorite.

@joel I use Syncthing too (PC↔NAS↔phone), and Strawberry to create .m3u playlists. Both VLC(phone) and Jellyfin(home/work) understand .m3u, and it's just a list of filenames, so fairly future proof (migrating playlists from Plex was... interesting)And as a bonus, `cat`ting them together works.I'm using Jellyfin on my NAS so Kodi(Librelec) can play music to my home system, and for playing music at work (and other places that fail to keep me away from their music PC).

@joel Have my music local on a Linux PC. I back up to Google Drive and sync to Nextcloud. Nextcloud has a built in player so I use that a lot to play, and also manually maintain copy stuff over to my phone for offline listening. I look at my local phone files like the tape or CD copies we made for the car in the previous century. It's just the stuff I want to hear frequently now. I can always stream from Nextcloud if I want to hear something else.
