@ChristiJunior @PunishedD It’s actually a big part of the ‘doctor shortage’. Women make up 70% of undergrad students, and med schools aren’t much better. In the past, we’d turn out 100% dudes who had to work all their lives, so roughly 50+ man years of work, full time. Now we’re turning out 30% men, and 70% women, and they just have different work priorities. Many women get married in med school, then begin having children as they get5 the free time to do some, setting their seniority and experience back for a few years because they find work is a hell of a lot less enjoyable once you have kids to play with. Those women end up dropping out of the game entirely at a surprising rate from teh sound of it, they return to practice when the kids are older and at school all the time but generally don’t like going to full time. So at BEST, a female doctor probably gives you like 30 man-years of work in all, yet they make up the bulk of the graduates. And no one can do anything about it other than demand they pay them more to make up for the ‘wage gap’

They’re basically a human interface for their hospital’s charting system. The days of a wise, understanding, mechanically-minded guy taking the whole body and it subsystems into account like an expert mechanic are long dead. They don’t like those types in practice, according to a professor. Insurance wants things done by the rubric, because it’s defensible in court. He used to always ask “WHY” in class and he’d lose his shit at the confused silence. “yeah, but why is it like that? Why would that be? Acknowledging that your ideal is unrealistic (and compensating to account for this) is a different question than what your ideal should be.
