In reality there is no unitary physical or mental locus for what is called "self," there is just a stream of causes and effects. Both the continuum of aggregated physical form (the body) and the continuum of aggregated consciousnesses and so on are changing moment by moment. So to the extent that "self" is supposed to designate something stable and permanent, there is not even the basis for such a designation
