@mnw @stux gpg signing requires users to know how to use and trust gpg keys. it is not a trivial process and would be seen as an annoyance by most.

@bananarama @stux What if there was a plugin or feature for "verified" or "government" accounts that allowed for some kind of signing and verification. IDK I wish that governments would avoid using these private proprietary services all together. Maybe it's not a problem that needs solving :-)

@stux I hired an admin for my linux box (Slackware) in the 90's when I was doing a bunch of the first big websites. He went on to be Twitter employee #4 or 6 I forget. The stories he has will never be told in public, they are insane. Mudge, the whistleblower at Twitter, lived near me, and ran the l0pft in Boston, an early hacker gang that went legit. Being in Boston in the early 90's when the web first started was the best!
