I offer Linux as an option most of the refurbished computers I sell. Most people do choose Windows, though. Right now, I include #LibreOffice, #vlc, Brave and ublock origin on all my #Windows PC installations. What #opensource software do you recommend that I bundle?Boosts appreciated.

@benis I agree... but web browsers are becoming a general technical problem in many ways: #security, #freespeech, et cetera. #firefox has some issues of it's own. I go back and forth between Firefox and Brave. Happy to hear more of your thoughts, if you'd like to elaborate.

@retroedgetech You include the software someone may need out of the box. Maybe GIMP should be on the list too but I think what you currently include is enough. Things like inkscape, tor-browsers and rss readers are software general windows users don't use. I mean, they use them but not all windows users use them so installing them will be just installing bloat. You already install common software any windows user might want so I think that's enough. Maybe throw a good foss music player but I don't know good windows music players.

@retroedgetech@mstdn.starnix.network I'd personally drop Brave in lieu of Firefox or a derivative, but it is only a personal preference since I lost confidence in Brave. VLC is a good choice. Maybe a simple video editor as well. A photo manager of some description perhaps. Maybe an audio converter. A Password manager. An ad blocker or two. Little discrete tweaks that make the difference to an end user. Things that you don't notice until they're gone :)

@EricZhang456 Interesting take. If most of my customers were knowledgeable about what software they wanted, I would agree with this as I would also prefer to install just what I want. Most of my customers would appreciate some guidance on what software to use, so I do think installing some #opensource software is helpful to them.

@jeremiah I found that is was easy for people to get started using it. It came with an ad blocker by default. From the results of this survey, I am pretty sure that I'll be bundling both #Brave and #firefox. I tried bundling #LibreWolf, but it's default #privacy features are likely too difficult for most people to easily use. I could look at De-Googled Chromium. I haven't used that on Windows. There was a #privacy Chromium based browser that I did install on Windows for a while. I forget it's name now.

@retroedgetech A lot of people aren't simply familiar with open source software. If, you know, you have someone comes up with a slow computer and you tell them that Linux is the solution, it's fine. However if you preload stuff, people might be uninstalling them right away. Also don't preload Tor since that's not seen as a good thing to the general public.Example: https://youtu.be/KC_RP2CglZc

@Yujiri @freezr @retroedgetech honestly it's so frustrating when I open a clip in MPV and it's just 100% volume, and I have to pause it and then use my MOUSEWHEEL to imprecisely adjust the volume

@Yujiri @freezr @retroedgetech I need to put my cursor over the volume icon, which is why I'm pissed at it. I'd be fine if it was just the mousewheel anywhere

@Yujiri @freezr @retroedgetech it is very ugly and VLC isn't anything fancy but it has that 2008ware look, MPV has that 2015 google summer of code hobby project look

@Yujiri @freezr @retroedgetech VLC is the gold standard of UIs for me in video players so I may be biased. can't stand stuff like Windows' default media player, it's just too boring...

@Yujiri @freezr @retroedgetech like this is minimalist but it sure as hell is lacking and obnoxiously modern
