       Well, it was fun running my own little instance for a while there - but I felt I was missing out on content, especially on the 'local' and 'federated' timelines. So here I am now on Fosstodon which I am hoping will be my final resting place 😀

       @jonnypencilsI wonder if it would be a good idea for default installs of fediverse server software to federate with a list of popular instances, so the federated timeline is populated from day 1? Without this, users on new instances can't even do hashtag searches to find people to follow. #fediverse

       @jonnypencilsMaybe also a FOAF function, where an instance can request federation lists from other instances, and see if any of the entries are missing from the list of instances it already federates with?

       @jonnypencils @strypey I'm on a "three account" self-hosted instance (this one, @ApplesauceFluxes, and @WOzFest, all run by me). As per my birdsite usage, I usually accumulate people to follow from other followeds' boosts and recommendations. I find firehoses too, well, firehosey! Once the Muskrat's purchase is finalised, or my timeline across the two is too much a burden (whichever comes first), I'll turn off my birdsite.
