I've been trying to sort through my browser bookmarks to make them useful again. My normal methodology (normal?) is to just keep everything open in tabs. Not great when it comes to performance. There's stuff in my bookmarks for Linux themes from 2011 and I have a bookmark to adafruit.com. I can't for the life of me think of why that would be bookmarked. Maybe I'd just heard about it at the time, but now it's just a go-to for nerd stuff for me. I'll type it faster than I'll find the bookmark.

@proactiveservices I literally just shuddered in my seat. I've been trying to close down some tabs that I don't think I need anymore, and I still have 48 open right now. On this computer. I was told yesterday I'm getting a new computer at work, which is what's driving this reorg. I moved all the open tabs I had into bookmarks so they sync with the cloud. Theoretically they'd sync anyway, but this feels more clean for some reason.@servant

@mike In Firefox, itās helpful to use tab groups to organize your tabs if youāre used to keeping them all open. You can then set it to suspend tabs from inactive groups. I even have it set up to use isolated containers for each group so apps I use for social activity canāt access cookies from school stuff, etc.

@benjaminhollon If there's a feature that Firefox has that could drag me away from Vivaldi, it would be the containers. It's a really cool option. I use Firefox on occasion for random things, but mainly it's Vivaldi for me. Is it some kind of extension that you use that suspends the groups? I group tabs in Vivaldi too, but I have to manually hibernate them if I'm not using them.

@mike Yeah, itās an extension. I think the name is āSimple Tab GroupsāVivaldi is Chromium, so Iād expect it has the built-in tab group support, though I donāt like it nearly as much as Firefoxās.

@benjaminhollon It does. I usually keep the tabs at the top and then I have a panel with the tabs on the left too. The panel gives it kind of a file system look with nested folders and the like. The tabs I use Accordion view, so things compress up and I don't have that massively busy look at the top. It's pretty comparable to the Simple Tab Groups from the 10 seconds I spent looking at the screenshots just now. No containers though.

@anycode Yea, Vivaldi's Quick Commands window is awesome for that. I'd be half tempted to get rid of the address bar and use that instead of the address bar didn't have other things that I use. Now that I think about it, I can customize the status bar to have the stuff I use in the address bar. Might not need it at all.

@mike Regarding suspension; I have one that suspends unused tabs, but I think the extension for tab groups also has built-in suspension features.

@kev There's a couple things that help out. 1. Tab grouping combined with accordion mode. Basically, folders for tabs where only the active (or last active) tab shows on the tab bar.2. Window panel on the left. Basically a folder hierarchy of open tabs. Basically looks like bookmarks and much more readable than the smaller tab UI.3. Quick Commands. I can just hit Ctrl-Space and type in part of a title or a command I want to run, and I can run it from there.Makes lots-a-tabs a breeze.

@kev @mike Not sure which browser you guys are using, but in FF you really don't need many tabs. Bookmark everything, and quick search it by typing * in the URL field, (hit space) and type.

@mike @benjaminhollon I use to waiver A LOT between Vivaldi and Firefox. Customized all my channels with different pics, themes, etc.Short version: Vivaldi is super sophisticated and I use when simply browsing - I do favor the aesthetics. The containers in Firefox have become non negotiable and it really just keeps getting better. Engine diversity is also prime consideration/concernNow that I say this, I fully expect Firefox to, once again, change their design and Iāll go back to Vivaldi š¤£

@jinxd I'm using Vivaldi, which has the same feature, without the * part. Just type like a search engine, and it'll dig through your history and bookmarks and your search engine of choice. Of course, that's all customizable, so you can enable/disable those options if you want.@kev

@vitSkalicky I used something like that in the past, but for me it quickly became disorganized and I started losing things. Purely a personal problem and not an issue with the extension. Even though I had it I kept leaving tabs open anyway, and it became just a different way of bookmarking. All my fault of course, but still...

@jppelt I really love the containers, and it's definitely a feature I wish Vivaldi had, but it's more of a "nice to have" feature for me. I try to avoid sites that I worry about sharing data, and I clear all cookies and such every time I close my browser. It's not quite as good, but it's good enough for my use. Still, I'd really like to get that container feature. I'm just not willing to give up the rest of Vivaldi for it at this point.@benjaminhollon

@jppelt I think that's a fair comparison. I remember one time @kev saying he was thinking of moving to a different browser because they'd made a UI decision he didn't like. Mobile isn't quite as flexible as the desktop version, but I can't imagine that EVER being a concern for me with Vivaldi.@benjaminhollon

@kev I'll second the MX Keys Pro as a great keyboard, particularly for Mac/Win cross platform working. I also do a bit of key remapping to make things simpler - on Windows CTRL is mapped to CMD, and on Mac I use the British PC keymap so that # is in a more sensible place. @pim @RL_Dane @benjaminhollon @jppelt @mike
