What are some of the best arguments you have used to convince people to use #freesoftware, the #fediverse, #gnulinux, #xmpp, #matrix or any other freedom-respecting tech?Curious because I want to get better at convincing 😅

@frox I gave some of them devices with Linux or similar installed. When they came to me with an issue or missing application, I could fix or implement that for them or fix a bug. Then they came to me with their closed source devices and I told them I couldn't. Now they understand the benefit of freedom respecting tech (and their downsides).

@Gux the conversation often goes: "why don't you use CLOSEDPLATFORM like everyone else?"To which I answer "I use FREEPLATFORM because ..."It usually happens when I want to exchange contact details with someone and we need to find something that works for both parties.So it's not exactly walking up to strangers and telling them "Use X it's better!" but arises in the conversation

@Gux @frox Sadly been my experience. I can talk about privacy, security and freedom...but it always come down to convenience and complacency. Plus, a lot of people are iOS users. I'm lucky if I can get one of those guys to try Signal.
