It just suggests that if you try to base empirical predictions on something other than sound physical theory, you're likely to end up with somethingn other than what you expected. I just don’t understand why he (they) can’t admit evolution is not “science” because it does not follow the set understanding of what science is. Economics is not science. It doesn’t mean it isn’t valid. Of course, I don’t think evolution is valid, but that’s not the point. Even if it WERE valid, it still isn’t science.

@Eris @Xenophon @straw You seem to think that scientists work how religious people do: start with your conclusion and work back. That isn't how it works at all. Homeostatic systems abound in nature, even in things like the function of stars. Opposing forces grind into each other until they hit an equilibrium. Original scientists, going back to the first practical chemists, had to discover this stuff through centuries of trial and error, theorizing and rejecting invalid theories. It wasn't just an intuitive thing someone thought up one day. There was a discovery process, that progressed from theory to theory. And we discovered those feedback and control mechanisms, almost imperceptible from the noise. And while it'd be easy to look at the same things they did and come to the conclusion there's no way they're really seeing what they claim, it's just an imposition on the noise, the results of this discipline have given us GPS, lasers, nuclear powet etc. It's undeniably an effective way to view reality. The problem you're having is it doesn't accord with your original cultural intuitions from so mabt centuries ago. And it doesn't have to. You see an enemy where it's not necessary.

Science is finding an answer that suites known facts in the most logical way possible and being open to that answer being wrong. Real science is far from "What actually is" and more "What is likely is"You are going full reddit in your faith in science. Neil DeGrasse Tyson levels of dogma and self righteousness.If a scientist looks are a blue light and wonders why it is blue but can't test it, the scientist will come up with the most logical answer for that color and it will be a "theory" but that "theory" will be taught in schools and universities until it is proven wrong. I saw a theoretical blue light.. I saw that light a few times. I witnessed my Dad dying in a dream and woke up in tears. I never cry.. Especially not in the middle of the night over a dream. Next morning they found him alone in his house on the floor.I saw other blue lights too.. Things that can not be explained by any modern science. My most rational answer is something larger is at play. I won't say exactly what it is, because I don't know.. But.. I know an atheist will tell me its coincidence, while a religious man will tell me its God. One of these replies is bullshit.. I know its bullshit because I witnessed it myself. Atheists are not logical, they are anti god. :pepe_smug:

Science is about formulating an explanation for reality, preferably one that can make predictions, and discarding what is proven invalid. That's literally it-- I don't see why it has to be anti-religious by necessity. And I'm not an atheist. Life is more of a dream than a set of physical things that is happening. Reality is structured as a narrative, everything from the beginning to the end. Concepts like what are laid out in Genesis are just a low-resolution version of something higher.I hope you get to meet your father again, somehow someday.

King James takes the most literal approach to the older texts while the Jewish translations tend to make it more metaphorical. I read like 5 different versions one day out of curiosity.Out of all the writings in the Bible, I find the story of Adam and Eve to be the most interesting. God taking physical form and explaining the foundations of sin and godly understanding. In a way.. Genesis lays out the foundation of Science. Human curiosity is godly. But when taken too far, can become sin. Or used for sin? Idk.. Bible shit is as hard as rocket science.

@RealNameFag @Eris @straw Well, the way I read it is that sin is just a fact of life, for some reason the knowledge of good and evil makes us capable of sin. That's just the reality we can't avoid. But there's also something redemptive about being human, being able to give names to things, being able to experience ourselves consciously. I don't quite completely understand it, I need to read more. I think there's more value in these ancient stories than a lot of people give credit to.
