This is definitely a type, although it will be less common if the real estate market doesn't calm down.If you go this route (do a few years and just save all your money, stay single, stick to cheap hobbies, buy a cheap house, rent out your extra bedrooms) your cost of living will be extremely low. Easily under $1500/month net, and if you cook your own food and don't go out you can probably get this to down around $1000/month net.

@dave Do you have what it takes to wind up sitting around all day, eating hot chips and playing video games for the rest of your life?

It's kind of annoying because I know if I had done a few things right I would totally have my house paid off by now, and then I could have my living expenses be even lower. Like almost to the point where renting out the extra bedrooms would pay for basic living expenses. Not that that living that way for the rest of my life is appealing, but the security would be nice.
