The thing about dynasties also applies to a Trump dynasty, Don Jr.

@darulharb Dynasties is not a proper word to describe ELECTED officials, same family or not.Not for Bush, not for Trump, not for John Adams, or Philip Livingston or any of the Founding Fathers ably followed by their offspring into public duty. Those who would proscribed candidates because of their color, sex or BLOODLINE, have ZERO understanding of American principles.Especially those who do it selectively.

@Debradelai I don't think it should be proscribed by law, it's just a bit unseemly.

@darulharb Oh.John Quincy Adams was an "unseemly" President. I see.Actually, I do not see anything unseemly in Americans exercising their freedom to elect whoever they want.AndI see all undemocratic proscriptions with equal disdain.

@Debradelai Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There are plenty of other counterexamples.

@Debradelai Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There are plenty of other counterexamples. And again, I'm not saying it should be prohibited by law.The "undemocratic proscription" I'm actually in favor of is a constitutional amendment prohibiting Senators from running for President unless they've demonstrated executive experience as a state Governor first.

@Julie @Debradelai He's not a Senator (never ran for any other public office, actually). So, yes.

@Julie Yes. The purpose is to encourage people who can win statewide office to first prove they can manage a state government before they run for President, and to discourage Senators from jumping straight into running the federal government from (in many cases) just having run political campaigns.

@Julie It would, I understand, put some Senators at a disadvantage vs. outsiders who may have been successful in fields outside of politics (business, military for example). But there are other Senators who are there because they've parlayed their service as as governor to get elected to the Senate, and would not be disadvantaged by the amendment.

@darulharb That would have prevented President Trump from running. The federal government needs to be easier to run and not so specialized that only certain folks can get in office. We need to slim down all our government offices. Federal and state. Build our roads and protect our country and stay the f*** out of our business.@Debradelai

@prchrskd As I said, my theoretical amendment only applies to Senators. As Donald Trump was never a Senator, he wouldn't be affected.

@prchrskd @Julie Here's the text of my proposed amendment, for consideration:"No person who currently holds or has previously held the office of Senator under this Constitution shall be eligible to the Office of President or Vice-President unless such person shall have served at least one term as Governor of one of the several States."

@Julie This is also serves to correct a structural problem I see which results from Senators being directly elected. As Senators, they don't really have to deal with trying to make the government work with the laws they pass. I'm favoring this both as a measure to restore some aspects of the federalism that has been lost over the years, and also because in looking at the history of the U.S. I find that governors have tended to make better Presidents than Senators which lack that experience.

@darulharbI still don't like it. Another extra regulation we don't need. @Julie
