@gme that’s disgusting. It’s getting worse every day. Wonder who will be the first to put it in an OS? Like, instead of watching a spinning wheel, you could be forced to wach ads while it boots. It’ll say [WIndows will start after ads] and make you watch ads. It’s right around the corner!

I keep on hearing about people talking about ads in Windows 11 (and Windows 10) but I have never seen one ad in either of them. I don't remember any ads in Windows 7 either. (I skipped Windows 8).Not on the desktop. Not in Explorer. Not in the Start Menu. Not in the Settings. No where.

@gme @Los7key it does depend on the situation, but they are there (in 8+ at least) mostly on the start screen/menu boxes i.e. news, xbox, etc. that flip around showing sponsored content sometimes Then of course there’s Windows Search, which searches the web for preferred options if nothing matches on the local system Also, us tech folk often won’t see this as we’ll wipe and install fresh, but I set up a lot of laptops and PCs for clients and the systems are packed full of value added apps that require subscription if used, so that could technically count. Not awful but getting close

Still never seen them. But then again I've only run Windows 10/11 Enterprise or Professional. As for the pre-installed apps, those are easily uninstalled in PowerShell.Hell, even Apple devices come with pre-installed apps that require a subscription.

@Los7key @gme I think there was a company making Android phones... Wileyfox I think, that put adverts into the OSNot surprisingly, they only lasted 3 years, which is probably about 2 years too many.I would not be surprised by your Windows boot up ads example though 🤣

@gme @Los7key Yeah, there's probably less of them in Pro/Ent versions - XBox GameBar still exists in those though which is really weird!Yeah, bloatware is easily removed, I set up so many I have scripts that sling them all in the bin :-)

@paul @Los7key As soon as I install a new Windows system first thing I do is launch a PowerShell script that removes the apps I don't need and sets up the various registry settings I do want.Used to do all this with a Group Policy but I got tired of running my own Domain.
