I hate the mindset of this trend of romanticizing rural and vintage and minimal living. Don't get me wrong I love the content that comes out of it. A nice little escape from my mental illness. It's just up my alley.But I fucking despise this mantra of "oh beauty is hidden everywhere you just have to search for it, everything is beautiful" when these cunts live in the middle of fucking nowhere in places like pic fucking related.Fuck you bitches, my life is miserable and there is nothing beautiful about it.

@Tepid_Tapir oh dear, tapir :hugs: remote living is quite different than rural, especially in harsher climates and less technologically advanced... it sounds like you've been struggling a while. i'm sorry you're hurting... are you wanting to make changes or are you trying to make the sweetest lemonade out of your lemons? there might be options you've not considered yet. if you want to bounce some ideas, you're amongst friends :)make sure you're getting enough down time ~ it's difficult to keep up with the stamina required for a more demanding lifestyle if we're not getting enough rest and rejuvenation when we're able...

In addition, you usually don't have municipal services, so you have to pump your own water, maintain the runs for that, and electricity hookups can be at the front of the property, so you're responsible for everything past that. If you have 20 or 40 acres, it's a lot to maintain.

@cowanon @Tepid_Tapir hey you, even seeing images of nature can be uplifting. mural wallpaper of the forest or something like it might be comforting to you ~ try bringing in some natural light with reflective surfaces so the space feels brighter and more inviting :teal_sparkling_heart: i've always wanted a living wall of moss (someday)... if you've got the skills to pull that off, you might be over the moon about it (i sure would be, hehe) ~ try turning on nature sounds in the background :) warm up the space with some accent colours... if all you have behind your window is brick, consider transparent decorative window film of something you'd like to see instead :hug:

@Tepid_Tapir @cowanon trade hoe? i'm sorry, tap, but you lost me... i've lived in some sincerely unsavory circumstances much of my life and i feel at peace in the current ghetto i'm living in (strange as that sounds) ~ i dunno, dude ~ sometimes you just gotta make the most out of the hell you're in ~ this life only goes so long ~ afterlife is forever, so i just focus on making this one as least miserable as possible 'til i get to my place of eternal rest, "the final vacation destination" (hehe)take nothing in life for granted, my friend... you don't realize how sweet you got it until the power goes or you have a water boil advisory or you have no plumbing altogether... i don't mean to minimize your frustrations... trust me when i say, i feel ya... i did not come from money and i hustled my buns and said no to a lot of things to get to where i am today and i'm weeks away from losing it all ~ i don't wanna get into too many details, but believe me... it's not a fabulous situation, but despite the circumstances, i'm doing my best to see problems as opportunities someone once shared something with me that stuck with me a i try and always go back to it in my mind when i'm feeling overwhelmed ~ head's up though, it's not gonna feel like a hug but more like a kick-in-the-pants, but for me, it was helpful, but i'm more the take responsibility for my own shit type and less the blame someone else, even if i bitch about the systemically created hell we're in, but anyway...condensed edition of shared story: if you think it's depressing because all your friends are going to mexico and enjoying time in the sun, but you can't go because you've got bills to pay... remind yourself, you can go (most people). when you think about, you're making a choice. you COULD take out a line of credit and get your ass over there and pay the price, the percentage interest, etc... and deal with the consequences of that later. you COULD liquidate whatever assets you've got, or fast for a couple weeks in lieu of eating and repurpose that part of your budget. we do have personal choice.believe me, i see most of the arguments that could be made ~ they are, after all, glaring... but i think it's important that we recognize what autonomy we do have. in interest of time, i have to cut it short, but consider how this could be applied to coercion. but don't misunderstand... though i wouldn't identify myself as a national socialist, i empathize with many points brought forward. i'm a patriot and i wish that the gov't would actually have their people's backs. there's a lot that can be extracted from n.s. but the downsides are too painful to accept as a reasonable way forward. i despise close to about the current political climate we're in. that said, we must never forget that life is a gift in an of itself... even the craziest most painful parts of it. i'm sorry you're struggling. trust me when i say, you're not alone... it might not be what you want to hear, but hopefully in time it will make a difference.
