@BigDuck Insulation is always good. Used to live in a house with all of those extra % min-max insulation features (double windows, sealing strips properly done on doors, etc.) and it was pretty cool (haha) how it'd stay cool without the AC running 24/7 and killing my electric bill.Now I own a home without all that so I miss it a bit :comfytears:

@BigDuck Yep. My current garage-turned-office was uninsulated and was unlivable until I got 2by4's, drywall, and a ton of that stuff on the walls. Still need a floor fan to keep things moving but hey, it worked during the coof.

@BigDuck Insulation keeps heat out too. Otherwise your roof will just attract sunlight and bake the inside of your house.Insulation keeps whatever temperature it is inside more consistent. Think like a portable cooler, it'll keep your lunch cooler than a paper bag would, especially if it's in the sun.Even if you don't have AC, you can open the windows at night to let in the cool air and it'll keep the house cooler during the day.Also, you'll need some heat to prevent the pipes from freezing, usually 55 degrees is recommended minimum, which is pretty close to what I keep my house at.

@BigDuck @nobullyplz Insulation protects from temperature change in general, keeps the cold in just like it keeps the heat in, so really you're saving yourself AC usage in the summer and having control over how cold it is in the qinter turning on the heat for an hour a day in the winter.

@BigDuck Insulation works both ways. Without insulation, your house will be as warm as the sun can heat it. Lived on the roof once. Not fun.

@BigDuck Depending on where you live the cooling unit, blower and/or ducts and returns could be undersized. I replaced 1 & 2 a few years ago and had them add an extra return and expand the vents. Now except for some weird pockets that couldn't be reached with expanded ducts, the whole house stays at 70 even during heat waves

@BanditHeeler @BigDuck when I was in HVAC class apparently I learned it's a common fad to undersize HVAC units because oversized ones keep stopping and starting.Ofc we also got told that having less air filters was a good thing and then a few months later COVID hit whoops
