@abbienormal i got a $350 "gamer chair" from the local office supply store and it was trash from the beginning, worse even than the high-back ikea office chair i was trying to replace. definitely look for reviews and don't assume quality based on price alone

@abbienormal i've always wanted a setup like this:https://octodon.social/@mlemweb/100544269036839254my mufo @CarlCravens recommended https://www.sitonit.net/productcatalog/tr2_taskchair.html for back pain but not sure that would do much for neck pain havers like you and mei've also wanted to try a "zero gravity chair," like a cheap "zero gravity" lawn chair, but the way people attempt to attach them to computers are completely ridiculous and expensive (pic)

@pho4cexa @abbienormalCurious about your neck pain. I suffered terrible pain for years, had trouble sleeping, couldn't turn my head or look up for long without setting off pain that would last for hours. Desk work was terrible. Physical therapy didn't help, but muscle relaxers at bedtime did some.Turned out it was tension caused by clenching my teeth while I slept. The first night of sleeping with a night guard, I awoke with zero pain for the first time in years.

@pho4cexa @abbienormal I say this kind of out of the blue because doctor and therapist couldn't figure it out... it didn't all come together until I read a newspaper article about people experiencing the same problem and same issue with doctors not recognizing the cause. But when I talked to my dentist, he knew exactly what the trouble was and how to help.

@CarlCravens @abbienormal that's interesting! but mine's not mysterious. fell asleep sitting at my desk, awoke with a start, and "gave myself whiplash" says my doctor. most of the pain went away with physical therapy but without a high back chair working for hours is uncomfortable

@pho4cexa @CarlCravens as for me, they explained to me that there are 4 small muscles in the neck that have a proprioceptive functionMeaning, the state of contraction allows the brain to calculate teh position of the head in the spaceThese muscles were strainedthe brain doens't receive such info anymore and reacted in 2 ways1) it made me dizzy.2) it contracted other muscles in my back that gave me pain

@abbienormal @pho4cexa Bodies and brains are seriously fascinating. Especially with balance, positioning, head and eye movement.I certainly hope things continue to improve for both of you.

@pho4cexa @CarlCravens they massaged/manipulated me and they gave me exercises to do at homemobility exercises for the first 2 vertebra of the neck and one ofr reinforcing said musclesit's almost magic how, when I do the mobility exercises, I feel like an electric current in the back, parallel to the backbone
