@neglesaks what does dependent mean? If google went out of business tomorrow and samsung did no dumb engineering I still can sideload and use the phone.I use OSM but the app is in their store etc.My laptop is Linux and the other one has Firefox, onlyoffice etc. Search would be missed...

@neglesaks Does this include the 18B that Google pays Apple every year?Since there's very few mobiles that don't involve google somewhere...

@neglesaks the only 2 google things i use is Android (degoogled LineageOS) and YouTube (through NewPipe with subscriptions via RSS). So im not sure if not dependent applies or more of a not very dependent would work better.

@neglesaks Zero direct dependencies. The last one to go was domain registration. My search engine proxies to Google search results, but if that went away, Iād just switch search engines. Nbd

@neglesaks Somewhat dependent since I need a google account to operate my phone. Which sucks a lot. Saving for a Pixel6 witt GOS.

@neglesaks I'm aming to obliterate my Google account eventually. But first I'll need a couple of stuff. Oh, and I use Google indiroctly in some ways:- YouTube throught NewPipe Ć SponsorBlock. - Search Engine, proxied throught Searx. - Ungoogled Chromium. - The AOSP project.

@neglesaks I run GrapheneOS on a Pixel 4 I got used, and I don't use the Play Store or have a Google account, so I put "somewhat dependent", but I really feel it's far better from a "dependent on evil corporation" standpoint than having an iPhone.

@neglesaks The android and the Google drive and YouTube are my demons...My circle are always using drive, and yeah that "free" cloud space is useful. And yeah, I use peertube but people still watch me in YouTube, it's hard to get people to even click a link nowadays...

@neglesaks If i use android phone, but with google services disabled (not ungoogled, i just pressed "disable" button in settings), does that still count as dependent? :blobcatthink:

@neglesaks I enjoy watching YouTube videos and Google maps is the best choice on degoogled Android. That's it.

@neglesaks There should be an option of "can't imagine life within their products and barely remember a time before they existed."
