@atoponce I've been using Linux a little longer, and I still haven't mastered #ed or #vi. I can perform basic operations, but nothing fancy.(My fault for learning #emacs first.)

@abbienormal A dedicated key that gives you access to some extended ASCII characters like smart quotes, ellipses, and en/em dashes. For example:“Eeh…it’s me—Mario!” – Mariohttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/ComposeKey

Now I'm looking at my password generator, and wondering how much extended ASCII coverage I have and whether or not it would be possible to type.https://github.com/atoponce/webpassgen

@atoponce This OS keeps things entertaining even after decades of use and that's part of its magic !

@atoponce You may try to use getLayoutMap() to get which characters can be typed by the user in their current configuration. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Keyboard/getLayoutMap

@IvanSanchez Interesting. I‘ll give that a look. Thanks.I was thinking of getting the defined characters from the “GTK Compose Table”, and compare that with what I defined in my generator.https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GtkComposeTable

@atoponce But I'll guess you'll have to take the browser's locale into account at some point.I wouldn't trust that compose table to work the same in KDE, or with a spanish keyboard, or with a cyrillic one.

@atoponce @abbienormal I have all of those on my normal keyboard, do they not come as standard on American keyboards?

@sotolf @abbienormal No. You have the dumb quotes ' and " and the ASCII hyphen -.

@geekosupremo I’m more just curious if I set one of these as my Mastodon password for example, if I could type it when I can’t copy it out of my password manager.
