       I bought a Thinkpad R61 in pretty good condition, save for a dead CCFL backlight tube. I just replaced the tube with a supposedly new one. And after disassembling and reassembling the panel all over again because I put it in backwards, it.... Doesn't work. Always test new parts before installing, and again before final reassembly.

       Interesting... Turns out the CCFL tube does work, it is just _massively_ under insulated, so the wires leaked off too much of the voltage through the metal case of the LCD panel for the tube to excite.I know this because when I took the tube out of the LCD panel, and removed the metal reflector, it not only lit up, but burned a nice high frequency hole in my skin.
