I'm starting to think that a good part of what prayer does, with its ludicrous idea of heaven,and what meditation buddhist style does, with its pantheon of ridiculous and silly davas and bramas, is just to give an image for the imaginationAn image to hold tight against feelings of addiction, and ptsd, of involuntary, negative , and unpleasant thoughts and memories. Just a flashpoint you can light up, when the darkness comes.Makyo or not, It doesn't have to be true, it just has to be the right kind of meme that has sticking power, and gets you through the brain fault - get you through the moment where your brain decides no, really, you have to think about that one thing that you really don't want to think about. The one mistake you made, perhaps, or the one person you didn't save.It's worth perhaps a little extra empathy for the fantasy-based community who are in the state of mind not because they choose to be for no reason, but because of trauma, and a broken memory retrieval apparatus. @jeffcliff Have your considerations changed since?Prayers does seem to be an effective coping method for some people. There's also a few kinds of social support accessible if you're part of a church "in-group" that can otherwise be tricky to obtain. Even if its a bit fucky sometimes, there IS some kind of sense of community, which seems somewhat unavailable if you're secular.Makerspaces definitely provided a sense of community for a bit before they died. Fraternities and sororities still do for their members. It's concerning that the churches are seemingly one of the few community gathering places left.

@sclerite @NEETzsche the Android project has always been a linux-based project - that's what got me to go trying to get an android working back in like 2006 While google was toying with replacing linux with fuscia or something a few years ago...they haven't got there yet
