@josh For $500 you can get a used Canon Rebel T7 and a 75-300mm zoom lens. Since you want range I'd stick to an APSC. With a 1.6x crop factor the 300mm will be around 480mm. If you want a mirrorless I've heard people have had good experiences with the Sony a6000. There's a much larger market for used canon lenses if you're looking to save money.

@josh yeah you can use the DVR thing without using connecting any stuff to wifi, but this may not be the best one of this kind, maybe look for others that come with a DVR or just get a dumb cam and supply your own

@colonelj @josh The schizo camera doesn't have to capture an image of your face as long as it notifies me of motion detection and intrusion. I think my S&W 45 won't have a problem dealing with a spray can.

@josh Almost all surveillance cameras with good range and quality will be wall mounted, Realink has some pretty decently priced stuff. Whatever you decide to go with, also purchase a bunch of dummy cameras and various shapes and sizes of antennas to place around them for that real comfy schizo aesthetic.
