@duponinThere will be many suggestions I'm sure.However, you don't necessarily want to self-host as a sysadmin. Especially not in a bigger company and if you'd be doing the security yourself. You want to transfer the risk to a service provider who accepts the risk for you. Thus not only saving you from tons of security architecture, hardening, backups and physical hosting, but also removes legal liabilities in view of GDPR, data protection and privacy.

@helene @realcaseyrollins @duponin I like thelounge I use it myself but for work, you'd want to be able to send messages to ppl when they are offline and be 100% sure that its not gonna be lost somehow, because history went too far or the server had to reboot or something.

@duponin @helene Matrix + Element pretty close to Slack for messaging (wo integrations). Threads, workspaces, REACTIONS -- all this "companies" things already there. I know a guy which works in company that change slack to rocketchat and then to element and still using it.
