That people say RSS is incompatible with an 'advertising driven' model of the Web is just more reason to kill advertising off."But advertising is fundamental to the web as it exists now!"Have you seen the web as it exists now?

@Azure the parts of the web worth keeping don't have ads.I can do without another website that rewords Reuters articles, spreads their ads in and calls that a viable business model.

@Azure The thing I really like about fedi is that there's no ads, no algorithms shoving contend down your throat, just you and people you interact with

@Azure I hate the fact that nowadays it is expected that everything you do on the web is financially driven, like you can't just do things because you like doing it

@Azure I really can't stand to surf the web without a good ad blocker.

@arh @Azure For some reason I got ONE ad on YT some days ago.I felt like someone breached in my intimacy and stole a piece of brain in a matter of seconds.

@Azure something that surprised me a while ago is that there are rss feeds for what many would consider ad spam, like newsletters for brand offers it's all a matter of having an easy way to look at it which rss does well.

@Azure RSS is compatible with my 2001 CRT TV. I don't care about anything else.

@Azure I don't so much mind advertising as I am offended (and a little creeped out) by ads that seem to follow me around the Web. Many years ago I had subscriptions to Scientific American, a magazine about historic preservation, and another about fiber crafts. Advertisers didn't seem to have any difficulty figuring out which publication their ads belonged in. I wish Web ads would adopt a similar approach: advertise on a website related to whatever product or service you sell. Simple?

@Azure Podcasts were able to integrate advertisements via sponsors onto the audio file itself, years before any platform needed DRM. In the same way I believe that Project Wonderful would have been a perfectly fine ad service if not for Google's marketing cartel. It's not like blogs were a pure nonprofit scheme. Pitchfork wasn't bought up by Condé Nast/Advance for no reason or any altruism, but because it was making enough money to even host festivals and produce video content.

@lerk @Azure god, if you only knew how many trackers does reuters have on their site again and how they basically have a side-business that depends on information gathering as a service...
