I talked with some designer friend who wants to work at #bigtech about why they like working for those companies after incidents like the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica scandal. They said that there are downsides but the work conditions outweigh them. They like the fancy offices, high salary and the social status. They also mentioned that we can’t really do anything about the inherent corruption. Those are controlled by higher authorities and they are just working and doing as they are told.

Personally, since my teenage, I’ve never wanted to work for big tech. I really want to do an indie design/dev business with a partner or two. But the more I come across and read about indie devs struggling to make money, the more I question my potential financial stability 🤷

@Suzie97 I kept alternating the two situations for years, until 2017, which is when I went solo. I'll be back with some tech soon, but the best was when I co-founded an indie design/dev business in London with two of my former colleagues from a previous stint in big tech.We didn't have fancy offices, we struggle for a while with money but when we started getting work it was almost magical. It lasted five years and then we decided to go our ways. We're still friends though :)

One of my professors is a game designer with a lot of friends in the game industry. He says that his game designer friends who have published indie games earn more money than his friends working for square, ea and other gaming giants. But the thing about going solo is that initially you’ll have to struggle and you can only hope that the product/service gets successful
