I have a pre-embargo Huawai Redmi Note 8. The battery is starting to die and I'm debating replacing it vs. having a Turk replace the battery at one of those phone repair stores that are on every street corner.Repair will probably cost between $75 ~ $150. A brand new Pixel is going to be between $400~$900.Discuss.(P.S. I know little about phones and only use them for pictures, maps, 2fa, and looking at kf in bed.)

I have a 7 and bought two 9 for family members.They're like 200 usd, they work flawlessly (after using XiaomiADBFastbootTools to remove chink bloat/spyware), they have a jack, and the pictures are nice. No reason whatsoever to get more expensive than that.

@josh get a tracfone for $40, they aren't that noticeably different than a $900 pixel. I use one to circumvent the turbo ban tinder put on every IMEI and MAC address I previously owned. Now they catch on to me making an account in a sandbox//VM too. It was the only way, but honestly no idea how they make these things so cheap and they work fine.

@bot @josh oh, I also use software to auto match anyone who swipes right on me so I don't waste time then I usually delete the account or get banned and repeat for free ELO boost that gets you way more matches.

@josh I wouldn't go for a pixel but a solid phone like that of Samsung since they have better quality. I am always skeptical about pixel quality and i think they die too soon. Maybe use yubikey for 2fa instead of just phone?

@josh why get a super new phone? I realise this is an old post but fresh phones from like 4 yrs ago are perfectly useable and only like... 200-300 bucks? I'd guess?

I've been using a Nokia 2.3 for years as an MP3 player/email checker, never let me down.

@josh you told me to buy pixel for graphen os and so I did. Bought pixel 3 of hands for 200$ and installed graphen. Replaced battery (got it from aliexpress) myself (now its not waterproof :(( . I like it: loads of cool Apps from fdroid and aurora app store - I don't use google for personal stuff anymore, camera is fine, its compact. For job I still carry xaiomi A3 though ...

@josh You could probably get a refurb/mint condition previous generation Pixel (not from China) for not much more than price of that battery - at least in the US that would be the case. I always like to buy previous gen flagships, save several hundred dollars.Not having to care so much about babying them by wrapping in cases and screen protectors because they’re not a $1000 investment is a nice too.
