@GMOdysseys To be more precise, it appears to be on the loose in a certain group, and that group does not have sex with women. If they did, the pox would spread from the infected to women who had sex with men who had sex with women. Maybe.We learned from AIDS that there are certain factors in gay sex that make transmission more likely than in straight sex.

@GMOdysseys Yes, it is possible. This morning's news reported the folks with monkeypox were nearly all gay, and nearly all black (I forget the numbers - over 80% for both.) The numbers could be false. I have no way of knowing.There is some dispute on the connection between AIDS and HIV. I am not qualified to comment on that. I meant to point out that there are physical reasons it is easier for STDs to transfer via anal sex than with vaginal sex.

@GMOdysseys Do what you should be doing anyway which is letting the preponderence of available evidence dictate your working theory of what's happening.Science is merely a tool for doing just that in a way that is consistently replicable regardless of who does it.The evidence I've seen points to it being what its said to be. @Foneguy89 @GMOdysseys @tj The argument about viruses not being real is foolish, simply because they are functionally real even if our understanding is totally off. You can take a plant virus (or whatever one wants to call it) that's sold in a powder and infect a plant with it. That same plant can be used to infect other plants. You can repeat the cycle ad infinitum. Whether it's "exosomes expelling toxic substance X" or a virus doesn't change the heuristic function of it.When I was growing up, we had pox parties where all the kids who hadn't had chickenpox came to the infected kid's house to get it (simpler when you're young). This doesn't mean all vaccines are good, but it does mean that something reproducible and transmissible exists, even if (and I'm being charitable with this) we do have flawed or incomplete understandings of the nature of what we call "viruses". The interesting thing is the doctor who was confident enough to inject himself with HIV+ blood on camera. Unfortunately, he died within a few years of that incident from something unrelated.
