Democrats: Trump is responsible for the recessionRepublicans: Biden is responsible for the recessionReality: Trump started the recession with excessive quantitative easing reaching a record 7% inflation by the end of his term. Biden made the recession worse with excessive spending and taxes bringing it to the highest level in the last half a century at over 9%.#uspol

@freemo I am young and have no money, so for me inflation is much better than lack of labour. It all depends on your perspective, I guess.

@freemo recessions are not equal to inflation, are they?

@freemo and Trump did not have 7% inflation by the end of his term. Inflation is complex and affected by myriad factors. Pretending that it is just about QE, spending, and taxes is naive and feeds right into political rhetoric.

@sturgmanThey are not, but they are related. Hyperinflation usually causes a recessoon but not all recestions cause inflation and low rates of inflation wont cause a recesion

@sturgman2020 to 2021 was the end of trumps term. Yes he had 7% average inflation by the end. You need to be careful as most ibflation charts use yearly rollinf averges and thus the inflation rate increase is delayednin the chartsHere is a quote from an accurate source:The annual average inflation rate between January 2021 to January 2020 was 7.3 percent.https://www.statistics.gov.rw/publication/consumer-price-index-cpi-january-2021#:~:text=Urban%20CPI%20increased%20by%202.8,January%202020%20was%207.3%20percent.So yea it already reached record highs under trump and continues to rise i to bidens term

@freemoDoesn't the source reference the change in Rwanda? How would that apply to USA? @sturgman

@freemo I'm not sure why you are citing Rwandan statistics (unless somewhere in that document they cite U.S. ones which I doubt). Here is the year over year inflation (12-months) for the U.S. https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/current-inflation-rates/I guess you can try attributing the 5% in May half to Trump but I can't see how you attribute the 7% figure for 2021 to him. Regardless, my point is that there have been other factors besides policy and a particular president. I do agree that some of our government policies and stimulus contribute in a delayed fashion to inflation, but if that is the case, no intervention is necessary because those disturbances were localized and temporary.

@sturgmanOops wrong link, ill send the correct one later. As i already stated youd need month to mo th to see the 7%, rolling average of year over year will not show monthly trends.
