@Ladyfat Well I use to play game with blocks that you have to make disappear....too hard to explain...and this is like that only more interesting. No doubt i'll give up after second free trial ends as the adverts on free version drive ya nuts.And it sofaa ....tut.

@DollyCat I did several courses of Japanese years ago. Now refreshing at least the characters on duo. Never got very good, didn’t really have resources or energy at the time to practice enough.

@Gnomeshatecheese Oooo I should have guessed gnomes could speak it. Can see you all roaming around garden at night doing ninja type manoeuvres. Duo good in lot of ways but i've just downloaded some work sheets to practice writing hirigana and katakana...not that I plan to write it but thought process might aid memory and also downloaded some other charts etc. What got you into it?

@DollyCat I had to take an extra foreign language and Japanese was remote enough to be interesting and also one of the easiest classes to get into. I still have the books somewhere in storage, might dig them back up when I’m familiar with the characters again. Would be nice to find my kanji practice sheets as well, though I imagine there’s some available online. My teacher did heavily compliment me on my writing. Btw, I get no ads whatsoever on duo, apart from the “hey wanna try the paid version” pages after finishing a lesson. I’m adblocked to the hilt, that helps a lot. I find duo basically a brute force learning tool. It’s not very good for grammar explanations, but the massive repetition does work for me still as an immersion learning tool.

@DollyCat @neglesaks Sadly, Japanese isn’t really a tonal language. They make up for it in other ways though. Like having different counting words for different kinds of objects. Which is both amazing and terrifying in equal measure.

@DollyCat Well her complimenting my characters was as much a surprise to me as anyone else. So there. I did have a nice bundle of kanji sheets, all in actual physical form though. You know, paper. Even if I found them, they’d have to be scanned one by one etc. In the end I made my own “sheets”, I got a notebook that had large square grid and wrote the kanji at the start of each line, one stroke per square. I might even have that notebook still hiding somewhere…I use duo on the browser on my pc, so I don’t know how the separate mobile programmes work. In general I don’t know whether adblocking works on devices, as I’m strictly a desktop person.
