@robflop Oh I'll probably have to check which games came out in the year I'm looking for to refresh my memory, but I probably played one game for each year, enough to do this. Though, now that you mention it, I'm not even sure I played any game from 2022 :char_nachoneko_baa:

Okay let's start2022 - Actually all I've played is Cuphead's DLC and YuGiOh Master Duel, and because Master Duel is flawed in a couple of ways, I have to settle with Cuphead's DLC :char_nachoneko_baa: So, I talked about it recently, but it'd only be worth the money if you plan to replay it more than once imo, else wait for a sale. Outside of this, very pretty, great tracks, fun boss fights, I don't really have anything to complain about

2021 - My Friend Peppa Pig Loop HeroI haven’t played Nier Replicant, so Loop Hero it is. Fun Roguelite, interesting plot, I haven’t finished it yet, but the fact you’re the one building the dungeon around your character makes it quite original

2020 - Paper Mario: The Origami KingPaper Mario had a bad period with Stickers Star and Color Splash somewhat, but Origami King? Wew, that’s one to almost compete with the first three games. Interesting battle mechanics, great characters, a good amount of content (though the side contents are lacking a bit) and without a doubt the best soundtrack of the series. I am still not over this track https://youtu.be/6Cm4zNQD5gY

2019 - Devil May Cry 5I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROACHING :aaaaa: PROVOKING :aaaaa: BLACK CLOUDS IN ISOLATION :aaaaa: I AM RECLAIMER OF MY NAME :aaaaa: BORN IN FLAMES, I HAVE BEEN BLESSED, MY FAMILY CREST IS A DEMON OF DEATH :aaaaa: So yeah, I wasn't too big into hack and slash before DMC5. That's also my first DMC ever. I may have played a few hack and slash games, but except maybe God of War 3 they weren't too interesting to me. DMC5 though? Oh boy I was not ready for this amount of fun, this complexity of the fighting mechanics and how satisfying it is to get long combo going. Very intuitive, yet difficult to master. Also yes I simp Vergil

2018 - CelesteObvious pick, since I actually ended up speedrunning that game. A great story, lovely artstyle (except for those that hate "le quirky pixelart indie game"), great tracks (Lena Raine 🙏) but mostly the game mechanics and the level design. They're on point. Like any platformer, it takes a bit to get used to dashing but the level design is done so well that your progression feels almost natural, as each new mechanic is introduced so well, there's rarely this frustration of facing difficulty spikes. Also most rooms are short enough to reduce the frustration of dying at the end of long levels (something which, I admit, was sometimes a bit of a pain in Super Meat Boy). Nowadays, there's also a huge modding community, so you have an infinite amount of levels to play of all difficulties. The tiny bad side though? I believe that Chapter 9 may be a bit too much to ask difficulty-wise for your usual casual player

2017 - Nier AutomataI don't really have much to say that anyone else hasn't already said, so I'll just talk about my personal experience here. I joined the ride after hearing some of its tracks and, well, after seeing 2B I admit. I started the game for the fanservice and soundtrack, and finished it for the story. One of the few games that made me tear up at its very end. That's all I'll say about it, and that's among the best games I've ever played, period.

2016 - Overwatch Enter the GungeonAnother roguelite, mostly because I haven’t really played much else than that this year. Still, very fun if you already like games like Isaac, or 2hu I guess :smuggest: But this time, it’s the whole environment that’s catching. Everything is made out of guns, guns that shoot guns, bullets that shoot guns, enemies out of guns, all flavour texts with gun jokes, genuinely fun to explore that universe. I also believe that many roguelites could take example on Enter the Gungeon for many QoL features it has, to allow a constant stream of action rather than having to backtrack a lot for just one item (I’m looking at you on that one, Isaac)

2015 -This one is a difficult choice for me. I'm torn between Undertale and Yakuza 0, both are games I could never stop rambling about. Despite how great Undertale is, I'll actually pick Yakuza 02015 - Yakuza 0The most fun, action packed adventure game I had in a long time. I think that someone on fedi said "I don't want huge open world maps, just give me small maps packed with things to do" and this is exactly how Yakuza 0 is. There is a gigantic amount of things to do depending of your mood. YOu can progress through the story, do sidequests, do minigames, etc. The sidequests and minigames are where Yakuza shines the most. There is a huge variety of them, and many sidequests are just entertaining to go through (like that girl with her "pizza" or a certain cult). Karaoke, Bowling, Mahjong *shivers*, baseball, sega arcades, POCKET RACING, you have enough things to do to prevent you from finding anything repetitive about this game. Combat-wise? Lots of fighting style bringing variety as well, and a decent amount of challenge (I played it on hard and found most fight to be fair I'd say). A huge recommendation for me, which is also the game that made me discover this whole series

2014 - ~~Dark Souls 2 lmao~~ Binding of Isaac: RebirthI was going to pick Shantae and the Pirate Curse first, cause I had lots of fun on it, and this one isn't yet another roguelite, but hey, I spend hundreds and hundreds of hours on Isaac so I can't just pretend it doesn't exist. You have two kinds of roguelites: 1) "We want the player to keep facing challenge no matter their build"2) "Break the game, I dare you, I double dare you motherfucker"Isaac belongs to the second category. The joy from breaking the game compensates for all these runs that were nothing but suffering. Most people already know about Isaac so I don't think I have much more to say, but I haven't gotten Repentance yet. I should, but also I'm scared of how difficult this one will be

2012 - I literally cannot find one for this year so it'll be FTL: Faster than Light I guess :char_nachoneko_baa: Roguelite, with spaceships. Not turn based, but let's be honest, with how much you'll use the pause button you'll play it like a turn based game. Difficult. My favourite ship build is the garbage truck ship. You just throw trash at enemies and it's one of the most effective build afaik

2011 - I love both Rayman Origins and Rhythm Heaven Fever but I guess I'll choose Rhythm Heaven Fever (sorry Rayman, you're once again left behind :blobpensive: )A rhythm game focused on audio cues rather than visual cues, which makes it a thousand times better to me. You can play it with your eyes closed, and still achieve perfect scores. The soundtrack quite nice too, but it really shines on how fun it is to follow the rhythm rather than following whatever is showed on your screen (yes, I did not like Osu, how could you tell?)

2010 - Super Mario Galaxy 2I'm not even checking what other games were released this year, I know I'll still choose SMG2. Best platformer I've played. The only complaint I can accept about the SMG games is how linear they are, but otherwise, that's the prettiest Wii game and potentially its best one

2009 - Muramasa: The Demon BladePart of these "wait, the Wii had such games??" collection, along with Madworld. A genuinely fun action-RPG for otakus since you'll see your fine share of samurais and other stuff related to this era. The fighting mechanics are quite enjoyable, and there's a good amount of replayability to it if you enjoyed it, though even just doing one playthrough is a great experience on itself

2004 - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake EaterYep, this one's a must. Just enough James Bond vibes to be cheesy, and enough MGS vibes to make it insane. The whole mechanics where you heal yourself is a wonderful idea, but it was sadly not too well executed since it tends to break the pace of the game. Still, a masterpiece despite that

2003 - Mario & Luigi: Superstar SagaI much prefer the Paper Mario and Mario&Luigi series than the main ones, and oh boy Superstar Saga is a great example of how great they can be. The turn based battles are done so well, are so full of energy, both thanks to the soundtrack and the sprites, the bros attacks bring this RPG its own value, etc. I am so sad that Alphadream won't make more Mario&Luigi games because this is a series I love a lot

2002 - Super Mario Sunshine (there's a thumbs up react so I'm counting that one) I wanted to say Mario Party 4 at first, but honestlyI played SMS a lot more than MP4. Part of the Super Mario 3D games where there's not too much linearity. FLUDD is a great mechanics, because it's not a whole new game mechanic but rather an extension of what most platformers allow you to do. Because of this, it feels natural to start using FLUDD, but it also is just as frustrating to get it taken away from you. The level design makes a great use of FLUDD, and most worlds you go to in this game are full of life

@themaxus Top tier soundtrack, how over the top it is make it entertaining at times, some boss fights are okay, but I wasn't too fond of the gameplay itself
