Rather than clicking the bell, you should add my channel to your RSS reader so you can check my channel for updates at your leisure.

zoomers will literally submit to The Algorithm and never know whether they'll see things they care about rather than enjoy the simplicity of an RSS reader

@izaya Fun fact: YouTube supports RSS! No need to a google account to check if new videos have been posted, just use your RSS reader :)

@mxm Additionally, you can set up your RSS reader to play videos from YouTube in mpv rather than opening it in a web browser, allowing you to avoid the website entirely

@mxm I have a script that my RSS reader opens all URLs through#!/usr/bin/env lualocal tA = {...}local default = "librewolf"local programs = {["youtube.com"]="mpv",["www.youtube.com"]="mpv",["soundcloud.com"]="mpv --force-window=yes"}for k,v in pairs(tA) do local domain = v:match("https?://(.-)/") local program = programs[domain] or default os.execute(string.format("%s '%s'",program, v))endI imagine some RSS readers would have functionality to open specific program for specific domains natively, but QuiteRSS doesn’t as far as I know.

@izaya the thing I noticed with RSS is that your client makes or breaks the experience. So many people last used RSS in 2004 or something and assume the UX hasn't evolved since then.Get yourself an open source RSS client from this decade and it's great!

@izaya are you following youtube channels via rss? i was working on a complicated script so i wouldn't have to visit youtube.com. i was unaware i could just shove it into my rss reader...

@neo no, though apparently QuiteRSS recently-ish added support for the media tags that YouTube and PeerTube use

@neo You used to be able to export your whole subscription list but here's an example one, you can just replace the ID at the end.https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UCZFipeZtQM5CKUjx6grh54g

@neo you should be able to use whatever it uses to identify it, like a custom name, I think.

@neo if you open it with invidious it'll redirect to the channel ID

@neo I would suggest the "Privacy Redirect" addon for Firefox-derived browsers to do this automatically.

@izaya I have that, I just needed to turn the redirect back on. I turned it off temporarily because it chose a bad invidious mirror.

@frainz There used to be a page where you could export all of your subscriptions as an OMPL file containing all their feeds, but I think now you'd have to use Invidious to get them. The URL format is https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UCZFipeZtQM5CKUjx6grh54g either way.
