What is the #video editing software that you recommend for someone who doesn't want to do much other than simply splicing and mixing together media files? Whatever "animation" or fluff would be done by screencasting a LibreOffice Impress presentation.I've used #openshot in the past and really liked its simplicity, but wonder what else is there? #kdenlive seems a little too feature-heavy?#askfedi #recommendations

@kzimmermann I was going to recommend openshot but you say you all ready like it. There is shotcut and while some people like it i don't like it much. There is also olive but i never tried it but its still in alpha/beta version 0.2.

@kzimmermann I recently used Shotcut to successfully do some video editing. I don't do this normally (almost never), and I was able to get in and get out. They had numerous useful encoding presets too. Maybe it will work for you?https://www.shotcut.org/

@kzimmermann KDenLive is what I've used, a heavy interface doesn't put me off and the simple stuff is still pretty simple with it.

@kzimmermann Openshot is nice and simple. When the task is even simpler: cutting and/or concatenating, converting between different format etc., I usually use ffmpeg.

@kzimmermann I've been using Shotcut for a while. It's got quite a few filters and an easy to understand interface, options for ripple delete so if you're rewatching it and decide to delete a clip it'll slide everything to the left to keep it all mine lined up, etc. It's also got easy to remember shortcut keys so you can do a lot of things quickly on your keyboard. I used to use Openshot back in the day but haven't messed with it in a while because transitions were finicky to get right.
