The climate crisis is here, and no European needs to be convinced of this.🚩Almost half of the EU is affected by warning levels of drought. Fires only exacerbate this crisis. With #EUGreenDeal, we are tackling the problem at its root→ http://europa.eu/!Tr74bn📸@hasici_cr@twitter.com

@EU_Commission climate change cannot be properly addressed as long as nations are looking at their economic interests. countries like China or India will not stop growing and emitting climate gasses because of agreements. and we in the west are not doing enough scientifically seek out solutions.

@kaia @EU_Commission The problem has become far too big and too urgent to be waiting for scientific solutions. But there is of course a simple solution already. We need to stop doing the shit we're doing. Eat less meat, stop flying, less cars on the road, consume less, etc. What is needed is political will to support the alternatives.

@jeronim this will however not happen since it's opposed to human nature.asking billions of self-centered people for radical sacrifices for no directly apparent returns is political suicide for any politician.it's also economic suicide. unless all countries would implement such regulations at the same time, it would give the advantage to those countries that would not agree to such limitations. countries like China, India, Russia and probably the US will not agree to such limits in the first place. such conversations are therefore moot.the only possible although highly unlikely solution is making scientific advancements that allow to replace polluting technologies with non-polluting ones and making it cheap enough for global adoption.

@kaia @EU_Commission i wish we would have a high horse so we can look down on others. once we done our homework (german politicians love to tell others to do theirs) we can start blaming others. currently we cant. and EU/Germanys agra subventions are a major player to blame.

@EU_Commission almost anywhere in EU, drought is a civilizational failure. When there is more than 500mm rainfall there should be no state of drought and 400 should still be manageable today. Instead of damaging the economy and taking away livelihoods, the EU ought to increase robustness of agriculture and long term resilience. Or in short: stop subsidizing sugar and corn.

@EU_Commission we're not tackling the problem at its root. You just think you are beacuse that's all you have influence over. Worldwide economic safety, equality of humans rights, sustainable worldwide production, consumption and disposal, fair pay down the entire line, full public insight into ecological, sociatal and economical costs and gains is way bigger than Europe alone. Being the first continent is not important, having a thriving earth and all inhabitants is.

@kaia I'm not convinced that supporting green measures is political suicide. There is widespread understanding of the state of emergency the planet is in around the worldhttps://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jan/27/un-global-climate-poll-peoples-voice-is-clear-they-want-actionAs for economic suicide: business as usual means more conflicts over water, exposure to weather extremes, agricultural collapse. This sounds like the much higher economic risk to me.
