Now we loop back around to why the Sig spear sucks so much cock.-needs new AR10 pattern lower to fit new mags (.277 fury uses a 308 case)-chamber pressure in excess of 80k PSI (normal semi auto rifles operate way lower then this)-Sig Sauer themselves projects barrel life under 10k rounds (they said 8k but it is going to be way lower)-essentially zero parts interchanibility with a standard AR15-not only that but has AR15 charging handle in addition to side charging handle (extra weight and redundant) for no reason other then "muh retraining"-the base rifle is 8.5ish pounds naked, with the suppressor it will be roughly 10 pounds with the new optic it will be another 2 pounds, then add a fully loaded mag and you are looking at roughly 12 pounds or more for a standard rifle lmfao

@professionalbigot69 7.62x54 eats 308s lunch in an LMG for a lot of reasons its not as good in a normal rifle. The rimmed cartridge helps with extraction since you are using belts they aren't stacked. US has never had good LMGs since the 1919 browning. M2 of course is great.

@Gerfand There is no standing military we would potentially go against that uses level 4 plates en masse. Also its literally impossible balletically for the new 6.8 round to go through armor better then 308 AP anyway. Level 4 stops M2 AP or 30-06 AP so this is less powerful then that anyway lmfao.

@GLObalMARinePR @PunishedD @Riamu It accomplishes it but not as well as upgrading the M4s to all have freefloating rails, better barrels, ACOGs with a T2 on top, and most importantly - using Mk262 ammo would do for much much cheaper.You can push it out to ~500-600 yards and after that you need to use crew served weapons, callin mortars, arty, or air support if you have access.

@Elfie @Riamu Well heres the thing, body armour tech can mean that either you need to get close or use a stronger round to have hits kill the target if firing aat center mass, this is why Soviets used body armour for their assault enginner (what in COH2 are called shock troops), no it wont stop a mauser but it can stop a MP40 and in CQB thats the biggest problem.Theres also the armour upgrade in the 80s that meant US infantry would have to get at 10m to pen the armor of Soviets, unitl they got a new, heavier round.Now don't get me wrong I still think this gun is dumb, mainly because of the stupid high weight and low barrel life in a conflict (basically if the enemy gets your supply lines cut you need to worry about gun breaking not only running out of ammo), the MG I think is smart, but mostly because of how you reload than anything, and weight saves.

The RPK loads faster and is familiar to anyone who can run an AK, the higher cyclic rate of the RPD is really not particularly advantageous in a squad LMG. Firing from an open bolt allows the RPD slightly better cooling, but neither is going to lay down heavy machine gun levels of sustained fire, as neither can change barrels.

Of course I think the reason using mags in them sucked is because the SAWs cyclic rate was higher than what the spring could keep up with... maybe I am wrong though since the M4 has a pretty high cyclic rate too.

You can put the belt out of new boxes a little bit to make it easier but it still takes time to swap.Take the old one off, sweep any stray links away, put new belt in and attach box to bottom of the saw.Vs. Press button to release drum mag and insert new one, release bolt or pull back on the charging handle.

That can be done with firearms, see the “technical data packages” I think are the words of art which Colt held onto until the military was able to bid them out for the M16 and the M4 and our friend FN generally won.But a magazine is ripe for reverse engineering; I suppose one issue would be Magpul or whomever getting their hands on a rifle to test it. Another issue is if or when when these would be fielded in bulk in the field in hot shooting combat situations (assuming this boondoggle doesn’t get canceled) where the guys at the sharp end of the spear get some say in what they use.The Army has been fantastically corrupt in this domain since the 1950s and it’s very unlikely competing magazines would get a fair trial, as soon as the Army got custody of them they’d be sabotaged as were the M14’s competition back then. For the AR-10 I’ve read things like replacing pins or screws with coil springs.
