@werwolfAnything Dostoyevsky, I enjoy. I am partial to Anton Checkov too, but he is a bit more 'flighty'.

@HMLivyOh I did really enjoy that book! I nabbed it when I worked at Books-a-Million as soon as it hit our shelves.

@HMLivyI should have asked this question a looooong time ago. This and all of the books I've seen so far have been excellent suggestions!

@johnhattanAgent and Mr Dobbs is a MUST!I have never read Greg Keyes, but I have a good deal on interest in doing so. Pratchett, I like, but I have to be in a Pratchetty mood...

@herag There are a couple of Charles Portis books I haven't yet read. Those will probably be next.Although Age Of Unreason is four novels, so it might be a little while.

@johnhattan @herag For light SF/F there is the Sten series byAllan Cole & Chris Bunch. I believe they are back in print. I still have a well-thumbed set of the originals on one of my bookshelves. Next to my Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser books by Fritz Lieber, and my Elric and Hawkmoon books by Moorcock.
