I guess I can try joining it, but I don't think that is going to fill my particular need. Espcially since #GNUsocial had integrated XMPP/Jabber support, but I don't think #Friendica nor #Mastodon do, and the #GNUsocial instance I was on just shut down by not renewing their domain after the owners had more-or-less left it abandoned for some time. XMPP usually shines over these because of it's simplicity and it being easier to maintain. Also, the clients don't consume a lot of resources.

People love posting links and sharing memes on both #Reddit and #Lemmy, but you can also just ask questions.I like the platform because it has a feel that makes more sense to ask questions from, or post news and announcements, rather than a microblogging platform like #Soapbox, #Pleroma, #Mastodon, etc. Even following a community or user (like @News or @realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city) can easily feel like following a newsbot.

@Fu Reddit is the logical conclusion of forums. It is not the greatest in any sense, and if I recall, it's been a week since they openly declared pedophiles a protected class, so even if it somehow magically went from being the third-worst webapp I've ever seen to something decent overnight, it still wouldn't be worth touching with a barge pole.
