Can someone please link me to a very good guide on what "Environmental Variables" are, what they do, and where the fuck I should specify them? Haha.I'm struggling with that on Alpine, their wiki isn't of much help.

@fatboy you will have better results if you look for "environment variables" or even "env cars".

@fatboy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environment_variableThey are a common feature in almost all operating systems, so individual distro docs might not bother explaining them. You don't need to read the whole Wikipedia article, but it gives you an idea of what they're for, and hopefully will give you more traction on your specific challenges.

@fatboy Best to look up documentation for whichever shell you're using. If the variable is for a program you're launching through the terminal then the easiest way is to add it to your shell config. The Arch wiki has some good info too for other cases but some of it might be specific to Arch.https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Environment_variables
