Still using Gmail? If the tiny rabbit is rigght, they even rewrite all links in your mails so when you click them you're being redirected via Google servers. Full profiling, as it sounds – this way G gets to know which links you clicked. Especially nice if the links contained some secrets, right?https://floss.social/@tinyrabbit/108666580491563537Time to change to a trustworthy mail provider if you're still stuck with #Google – or do you like your #privacy being invaded like that?

@IzzyOnDroid GMX also does that, very openly (ca. 1 second of a redirect page), claiming that they are doing it for your security. I have my doubts.

@MBrandtner I know several mail servers doing such *when accessing mails via their WebIFs* – but aparrt from Gmail I've not heard of any service doing that in the mails they deliver. Though as I don't use Gmail myself I'm not 100% sure if tiny rabbit meant that they're doing that in their WebIf/app – or really rewrite the message body. Maybe someone who still has a Gmail account can verify?

@IzzyOnDroid @MBrandtner I don't think they do it in my thunderbird though? Only web interface?

@zladuric That's what I suspect – but wouldn't be surprised the other way around. In old times (when there was no CSP), that was done by WebIFs to conceil the referrer. Nowadays I'd rather expect the referrer being stripped entirely, so no link rewrite is needed for this purpose. So if an advertising company does such, I rather hear the alarm bells ringing.Speaking of which: MS does rewrite the links in mails. I see that in replies to mine…

@IzzyOnDroid Yeah no, I just checked. Thunderbird: no rewrite. Web UI: not an actual rewrite, but clickjacking to pass the link through google servers. You can, in theory, still right-click -> open in new tab.But as you said, Microsoft and Google both pre-cache links, "for faster" whatever once you open the mail. Silver-lining being, advertisers think I opened their link :)Bad the bad thing: Microsoft INDEXES your email links. Including things like password resets.

@zladuricJust curious: How do you get Thunderbird to still access your Gmail-Account? :mastoface_with_rolling_eyes: Google's IMAP servers reject my login attempts since they were reconfigured in June :mastoflushed:
