       @urusan It's quite simple:From the Chromatic Planes you have ELF through gamma.From the parachromatic planes, you have things like purple. Also stuff like reddish green that looks like yellow to humans. Or UVCish-Green. Which to humans just looks like green and feels like pain for a few days after seeing it.And from the quasichromatic planes (the ones where the chromatic planes touch the Positive Luminous or Negative Luminous Plane) you have things like pink and brown.This is all set forth pretty straightforwardly in the AD&D Colorwheel…

       @urusan I voted other. it’s highly contextual. in my painting classes i learned that you can actually pick any three random colors as primaries and get quite a lot of range out of them. 1. there’s the wavelenth sensitivity curves of the rods and cones of the human retina, which are *not* the same from person to person like unique snow flakes. most things operate off a now out of date standard based on a survey done in the late 1920s2. there’s opponent color process as someone else pointed out

       @urusan 3. there’s the primaries used in painting, which are based off of intuitive practice, and based off of the empirical behavior of available paint pigments which do *not* have pure spectral distributions, do not have consistent partical sizes, and therefore react to mixing and lighting in ways that are not neatly mathematical nor do they relate to human retina, or perception in the same neat way rgb phosphors or cmyk inks do

       @urusan 4. the RGB phosphors of lcd rgb filters or LED colors also are all different from display to display. they make an effort to be as pure as possible but their spectral distribution simply is not a clean pure wavelength, it’s a mess that makes consistent color from display to display a huge challenge

       @urusan 5. cmyk inks are the subtractive analogue to rgb additive color systems. and similarly though they make an effort they are not pure either, which is what makes the black ink necessary! if they were perfect inks, the three of them printed on top of each other should make black, but they make brown, and also cause paper ink saturation issues.
